University Bike Lanes to Be Removed… Temporarily???

We’ve been notified that MD State Highway Administration plans to remove the bike lanes on University Boulevard in Wheaton, MD on Dec 17, 2021.

They have informed some residents via email that the current infrastructure, put in place as a pilot study, is not designed to withstand winter weather. They are also planning to evaluate data and feedback from this pilot project to see if they will come back and put in a more permanent bike lane treatment here.

Tell them that you like the lanes, and you support making them a permanent feature. You can also tell them that you’d like to see them extended to run from Kensington all the way to College Park.

We also need you to share this post and get as many people as you can to also respond to the survey. There’s been a tremendous amount of pushback from a small but very vocal group, mostly centered around the slip lane at Arcola Road, which could easily be adjusted and fixed. We need SHA to hear from more people ASAP!
